To soften a brittle shingle, carefully use a propane torch with a flame spreader nozzle. Apply the flame carefully to the curled edges of the shingle then flatten the edges of the shingle. To reattach a shingle, apply roof cement to the bottom and a little bit at each corner. If the shingle is torn, rotten or missing simply replace them with new ones.

If you find an area with rotten shingles you might need to consider a new roof. In order to find out if you really need a new roof or not, contact Yorkshire Roofing, we will inspect your San Jose Roof and give you our honest opinion on whether you should consider a new roof or just fix the area by replacing it with new shingles left over from the previous San Jose roofing job.
